Kilkhampton as a village is one of the few remaning villages in Cornwall that has managed to preseve it’s very strong traditional community spirit, something that the people of Kilkhampton are very proud of.

It has a very unusual Twitter feed – The only Tweets are from the clock in the tower in the village of Kilkhampton. The clock is  156 years old.

Goudhurst is built on the slope of an eccentric hill in Kent on the Weald.

Approaching it from the south you see a collection of red roofs one above another, picturesque and promising. At the summit of the hill you come to the church, ancient, large and interesting. The landscape is richly timbered. There are woods on all sides.

Lindal and Marton community website

Place names in Cumbria arise from a variety of languages and periods of history. These include Old English, spoken by the Anglo-Saxons from the 6th to 12th centuries, and Old Norse, spoken by the Norwegians who colonised north west England from the 9th to the 12th centuries.

The name Lindal (originally Lindale) is probably of Norse origin, derived from ‘Linden’, an alternative name for a Lime tree, and ‘dale’ meaning valley, ie valley of Lime trees. However, it is also possible that the name is of Celtic origin, meaning village around a deep pond.
